Event description
Physics short talk + share flipped classroom struggles and strategies in this teacher PD event hosted by meriSTEM (ANU).

About this Event

You'll learn about the physics of gravity wave detection with Dr Vaishali Adya from The ANU Centre for Gravitational Physics, explore various models of 'flipped classrooms' and learn from science teachers currently implementing flipped classrooms using meriSTEM resources in a free, two hour workshop with afternoon tea.

----------------------------------

Science content presentation: Detecting Gravity Waves (30 minutes including Q&A)

Dr Vaishali Adya from The ANU Centre for Gravitational Physics will introduce the science of detecting gravitational waves from black holes and showcase how science truly is a 'Human Endeavour', explaining how an international science project actually operates. This will be followed by a question and answer session on theoretical and experimental quantum science, plus any other burning physics questions you might have.

(AITSL standard 2.1 Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area)

Pedagogy research notes : What's your version of flipping? (30 minutes)

A brief look at various models of ‘flipped classrooms’ from the science education literature and some take-home tools for evaluating and reflecting on your own practice .

(AITSL standard 1.2 Understand how students learn, 6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice)

Facilitated discussion and networking: Strategies for flipping in the real world (60 minutes)

To close this event, we'll prompt a participant discussion based around frequently confronted issues and questions about implementing flipping and meriSTEM in schools.

When registering for the event participants will be invited to submit questions for other teachers. Registered participants will be provided with key questions prior to the event to allow them to formulate their own ideas and answers for the discussion.

(AITSL standard 3.6 Evaluate and improve teaching programs, 4.2 Manage classroom activities, 7.4 Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities;

Principals standard: Leading Improvement, Innovation and Change)

----------------------------------

meriSTEM (modular educational resources in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is a free program providing everything teachers need to flip their science class using blended learning resources.

We are only able to exist thanks to volunteer support and the Research School of Physics at The Australian National University.

The Research School of Physics at ANU are a TQI recognised provider and this event is approved for two hours.
