Event description

Description

Are you an undergraduate interested in getting involved in research? The Advancing Women in Science student group is hosting a Mentorship Mix and Match event for ALL undergraduates interested in becoming involved in research on UNM campus. We will have several professors attend the event who are interested in having undergraduates participating in research at different levels - for example, receiving training from graduate students, being paid research assistants, conducting an honours thesis project, or joining lab meetings. The format for the event will be a structured meet and greet, where students will have about 5-10 minutes with each professor to introduce themselves and find out about opporunities in the professor's lab. The aim of the event is for students to learn more information about opportunities and gain confidence reaching out to professors if they are interested in pursuring research. We will facilitate the exhange of contact information of both students and professors, and provide question prompts for students during the event.

Students who would like some advice on what to discuss with professors or how to introduce theselves can arrive at 3:30 pm, for a 30 minute short workshop prior to the event with graduate student leaders from Advancing Women in Science.

If you are considering attending the event but would like to know if there is a specific professor or professor from a specific field attending the event, please contact us at awsunm@unm.edu and we'll do our best to accomodate your interests.
