Event description

Description

The Mentors-in-Motion (MiM) program is designed to facilitate networking and information exchange on a variety of subjects relevant to the postdoctoral and graduate community at Jefferson.

MiM sessions will be held on Wednesdays at 4pm, starting from September 5th through the end of October 2018. Each weekly session will revolve around a specific theme (e.g. scientific publishing, mentor-mentee relationships, grant writing etc.; see weekly theme list below).

The session will start at the lobby of Jefferson Alumni Hall where the participants will meet with 3-4 experienced mentors. The participants will have a chance to talk, ask and learn from the mentors while enjoying a casual walk to and around Washington Square.

Each session is limited to 16 participants to allow for meaningful engagement between the participants and mentors. There is no limit to the number of session you can attend.

Weekly themes:

Sept 5th- Behind the scenes of science publishing

Sept 12th- Grants and funds management

Sept 19th- Cancelled due to Yom Kippur

Sept 26th- “Natural” transitions in academia (from graduate student to tenure and everything in between)

Oct 3rd- The science of guilt (or dealing with the day-to-day guilt of science)

Oct 10th- Healthy life on a scientist’s schedule

Oct 17th- Mentor-Mentee relationships in the lab and beyond
