Description

For 15 years, the Mentoring Matters Conference has been one of the region’s most notable opportunities to bring timely, relevant and compelling information to mentoring programs, educators, youth-serving professionals, mentors and families. This year’s theme is Making Youth Stronger and will feature:

  • Morning keynote

  • Interactive and informational workshop options

  • Empowering Today in Mentoring (TIM) Talks

  • Afternoon panel

  • Networking opportunities

WORKSHOP OPTIONS

PANEL - College Retention: Getting Kids REALLY College Ready

This panel will discuss how mentoring can address a critical issue faced by young people planning for and/or entering into higher education – the struggle of adjusting, adapting and remaining in college for the full two-four years of their degree. This panel will explore all angles of this issue and brainstorm ways for those who work with youth in schools, mentoring programs and other organizations to help prepare young people not only to make it to college but to stay there and thrive.

With panelists:

  • Chotsani Williams West, Director of Student Mentoring, Adelphi University

  • Daniella Asantewaa, Co-founder & CEO, The Fairy Godsister, Inc.

  • Mario (Tony) Ramirez, Adelphi University Student & Mentee

TODAY IN MENTORING (TIM) Talks

Throughout the day, you will experience three Today In Mentoring (TIM) Talks. These short and informational talks will address:

  • The Power of Relationships Report (MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnerships newest research findings)

  • Recruiting Men of Color to Be Mentors

  • Informal Mentoring

KEYNOTE

CONFERENCE DETAILS

  • Check-in begins at 8:30am and breakfast will be served. Our day will officially begin at 9am.

  • You do not need to bring your ID or a printed ticket to check-in at the conference.

  • All Early Bird ticket sales end on Friday, January 18, 2019.

  • Regular ticket sales end on Friday, March 8, 2019.

Ticket purchase includes breakfast and lunch. Please read the workshop descriptions below before registering, as you will have to select one during registration.
