Description

The Next Conversation: Mental health initiatives helping our youth - How do we get to 100%?

Join leaders in the Commonwealth to find out what we are doing well to address mental health needs of our young citizens, identify where the gaps are, explore what we could be doing better, and to figure out the next steps that need to be taken to make sure that all of us get all the help we need. Many people are working hard but what do we need to do together to get to 100% of our citizens getting 100% of what they need to increase wellbeing and access the services they need?

10:30 – 11:30 – A Conversation On Legislative Actions and Hurdles.- Senator Joan Lovely, Senator Cindy Friedman, Mayor Kim Driscoll and Dylan O’Sullivan, Assistant to US Representative Seth Moulton

11:30 – 12:30 – Criminal Justice Conversations About Mental Health.- Representative Paul Tucker, June Binney of The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Lt. Dennis King of the Salem Police Department

12:30 – 1:30 – A Conversation About Mental Health Screening and Education.- Salem Superintendent of Schools Margarita Ruiz, Dr. Michele Solloway from the ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences Project at Johns Hopkins University, and Norm Gormin.

1:30 – 2:30 - A Conversation About Interventions and Best Practices - Margaret Marotta, Assistant Superintendent of Salem Schools, Michelle West, Cedar Clinic of Boston, Elisa Castillio, SSU.

3:00 – 5:00 - 99 Faces Project Exhibit and Reception, Berry Library. Join us for this wonderful multi-dimensional art exhibit linking mental health, mental illess, art, and science and Artist Talk with Lynda Michaud Cutrell, MBA



This is the 6th annual Salem as a Safer Child Community Symposium. We bring together community members, students, faculty, government leaders, businesses, NGOs, faith communities, and all others who want to help advocate for the wellbeing of children, youth, and young adults. We look forward to sharing with, and learning from, you.
