Event description

Description

Mental health disorders are on the rise. Many are not aware that 17% of youth (age 6-17) experience a mental health disorder and suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among individuals age 10-34. What are some of the ways we can prevent early onset of mental health conditions from becoming worse? Medications and traditional counseling may not be enough or may not be needed when we get in touch with the triggers that cause us harm. Join us to hear a panel of young adults talk about how they stay focused on their own mental health. We will hear about the approaches that have worked for Jess, Cavan, Jake, Natalie, and Bella. There will be a 50-minute panel discussion facilitated by Dr. Christine Z. Somervill, Director of Programs at NAMI Cook County North Suburban, followed by Q&A with attendees.

This free event is sponsored by Maine Township's MaineStay Youth & Family Services, Chicago Behavioral Hospital, NAMI-CCNS, Erika's Lighthouse, and Institute for Therapy Through the Arts. It is appropriate for parents, students, community members, and professionals and includes 1.5 free CEUs for social workers, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and nurses. Check in will be from 6:30-7:00 PM. Advance registration is requested as seating for this event is limited.
