Event description

Description

Mental Health Matters is a new monthly series of free community gatherings focused on offering help, hope and healing related to common issues of mental health. Hosted by Hixson United Methodist Church and Come and Reason Ministries, insightful and practical presentations on the human brain, mental illness, and treatment and healing will take place every second Thursday of each month throughout the year (Click here for the full 2018 list with descriptions). Gatherings will include a topical presentation followed by time for networking and connection with dessert and coffee.

Thursday, December 13: The God-Shaped Brain

Our brains are in a constant state of flux. Moment by moment new connections are forming, idle tracks are being pruned back and brain circuits are changing. Discover how our beliefs change our brain wiring, our physical health, and even which genes are turned on or turned off. Do your beliefs matter – more than you ever knew!

Objectives:
1. Identify the relationship between belief and physical and mental health.
2. Examine the scientific evidence documenting how a change in belief can alter brain function resulting in a change in health.
3. Formulate a methodology for separating healthy from unhealthy beliefs.
