Mental Health Lecture Hearing Voices: Divine, Demonic or Hallucinatory?

The CNTW Trust chaplaincy team are launching their series of annual lectures which seek to explore aspects of mental health through the lens of spiritual wellbeing.

Many spiritual traditions identify voices heard by their saints and mystics as encounters with the Divine, or with evil (demonic) entities and yet, in mental health practice, such voices are often identified as hallucinations.

Is it possible to reconcile these different perspectives when diagnosing and planning care?
