Event description

Description

Missy Stancil, MHFA trainer and director of CareNet's Central Region, is excited to work with members of First Baptist Church of Marion, professionals from McDowell County Schools, and other community leaders as they become Mental Health First Aid Certified. This course is open to the public ($25, 8-hour training).

What is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an 8-hour training to teach participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it helps trainees identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. MHFA teaches you:

  • Signs of addictions and mental illnesses
  • The impact of mental and substance use disorders
  • A 5-step action plan to assess a situation and help
  • Local resources and where to turn for help
