Event description

Description

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally-recognised, 2-day training course. It is for anyone interested in providing a first aid help for anyone with mental health problems to ensure that they get the best possible outcome by enabling access to treatment and support. The course teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of poor mental health and provide first aid help.

Adult Mental Health First Aid can be attended by anyone aged over 16, and focuses upon the skills needed to provide initial help and support to people with mental health problems. The course is delivered by a quality assured instructor who has attended the seven day instructor training programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health.

Over the 2 days attendees learn how to:

  • Identify the early stages of a mental health problem

  • Help someone who is dealing with a mental health issue

  • Help someone who may be self-harming or at risk of suicide

  • Help stop poor mental health from worsening

  • Help someone have a quicker recovery

  • Guide someone towards professional help

  • Break the stigma surrounding mental health problems

  • Provide comfort and support

  • Listen well

Attendees on the MHFA course also learn about common diagnoses, such as anxiety and depression, as well as less common diagnoses that people often find worrying or confusing, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The course also looks at different ways of trying to understand what causes mental health problems, what can help and the supports and treatments available.

The course comes with a comprehensive Mental Health First Aid manual for each attendee, as well as a workbook and a "Z card", which provides a summary overview of the key skills learned during the course.

Each course can be attended by between 10 and 15 people.

After completing the course, each attendee receives an attendance certificate.

The course runs over 2 days (12th and 13th July), from 9.30am to 4.30pm each day. Please arrive from 9am.

Parking is available at the venue in Bradford, and refreshments are provided. There are places nearby to buy lunch, or please bring your own.

REFUND POLICY

The standard refund period is 30 days before the event. However, I will try to be flexible where I can and may offer refunds and/or partial refunds later than that. Also, it may be possible that someone else could come in your place, and I may also be able to offer an alternative date to attend instead. I will always try to agree a solution outside of the refund period.
