Description

This course is open to Metropolitan State University staff, faculty, and students.

This course is a two-part course, Tuesday, November 7 and Tuesday, November 14 from 8:30 am-12:30 pm. The classes will be held in Science Education Center Room 115. You must attend both days.

Mental Health First Aid introduces the risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses.The course uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis and connect persons to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.

You will learn the five-step action plan, ALGEE:
Assess for risk of suicide or harm
Listen nonjudgmentally
Give reassurance and information
Encourage appropriate professional help
Encourage self-help and other support strategies
