Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This 8-hour training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to people who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

This Mental Health First Aid training is designed for people who work with youth. Because a young person you know could be experiencing a mental health or substance use problem and this training will help teach an action plan that helps people in a non stigmatizing manner. Anyone 18 or older can take the Youth Mental Health First Aid class, but it is recommended for those who regularly have contact with young people ages 8-24 :parents, caregivers, teachers, coaches, school administration staff, janitors, bus drivers, community center staff, youth groups, after school program staff, doctors, nurses, hospital and medical facility staff, parks and recreation, court services, probation and juvenile justice, receptionists, clerks and administrative assistants, faith leaders, social workers, case managers, ... any caring citizen.


The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

The course will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:

• Assess for risk of suicide or harm

• Listen nonjudgmentally

• Give reassurance and information

• Encourage appropriate professional help

• Encourage self-help and other support strategies


Will CEUs be available?

Eight Social Work CEUs will be available to participants that attend the training in entirety.

Is there a minimum age requirement to attend the training?

Participants must be 18 years of age.

What should I bring into the event?

Beverages and Food WILL NOT be provided as a part of this training. Participants will have 2, 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch break. Please plan to bring your own food and beverages to the training.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No - You do not need to present ticket on the day of the training

Can I update my registration information?

Yes, you may update your registration up until the day prior to the training.

Is my ticket transferrable?

Yes. If you are no longer able to participate, you may cancel or transfer your registration to another participant.
