Event description

Description

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 and yet it doesn't get the attention it deserves. Kirklees are hoping to raise awareness of the importance of mental health. As part of World Mental Health Day, we have speakers lined up to talk to you about their personal experiences of mental health.

  • Jimmy Gittins - A former semi-professional Rugby League player, who experienced life changing injury. Jimmy will describe his inspiring story of overcoming adversity and the power of positive thinking and action.

  • Ian Smith - A former superleague referee, who will discuss the stress and pressures of being the subject of regular abuse. He will also highlight the devastating experience of losing a close colleague to suicide and describe how he has learnt to cope with life.

  • Rob Thewlis - lead facilitator for Andy's Man Club in Huddersfield. He became involved with the club following the passing of his mum in 2016.

Don't miss out on this FREE opportunity to hear how these MEN have tackled their own mental health. This event is for anyone to attend.

Come along at 5.30pm and grab a tea/coffee and find out what is available on your doorstep. The event will start promptly at 6pm.

The event will close with a performance from Men's Talk - a group of men from Kirklees with lived experience of mental health conditions.
