Event description
Join us for a panel discussion to learn about the New York Health Act and why it matters for mental health care.

About this Event

Finding appropriate, quality mental health care can be a challenge, but we all know that paying for it can be even harder. Although insurance companies are required to cover mental health and substance abuse care in the same way that they cover physical health care, data shows that disparities in insurance coverage have continued to increase. In New York State behavioral health visits were ten times more likely to be out of network than primary care visits in 2017.

The New York Health Act aims to change this by establishing comprehensive, universal health coverage for every New Yorker, that includes mental health care. Join us for a panel discussion co-hosted by the Campaign for New York Health to learn about the New York Health Act and why it matters for mental health care coverage. Share your own challenges accessing affordable mental health care, learn more from medical and policy experts about the barriers to quality care, and learn how you can help make the New York Health Act a reality!

Opening remarks will be provided by Assembly Member Richard Gottfried
