Event description

Description

The zero2hero MENtal Health Breakfast was created by one of our passionate Camp Hero Alumni; Brodie Mack.

Join us for a morning that will both inspire and educate you. Young men are at high risk of developing mental health problems, and are typically less likely to seek help through traditional channels than young women. This event will shine light on why this is the case and also leave you with some practical tips on how you can better support your own mental wellbeing or that of the men in your life. Event details:

Date: Thursday 15th November 2018

Time: 7am - 9am

Venue: Tompkins on Swan

Cost: $40 per person or $360 for a table of 10 (+ booking fee)

Ticket price includes sit down breakfast and drinks (tea, coffee and juice).

Speaker topics include:

- Overcoming Adversity
- Understanding the Male Adolescent Mind
- Deconstructing Masculinity
- Mental Health in Sports

Our Speakers include:

Mike Dyson

Mike Dyson has spent 15 years nurturing his understanding of mental health and holistic wellbeing through his work as an acupuncturist and Chinese medicine practitioner.

Mike is also an enthusiastic and engaging group facilitator, working as a senior facilitator with the Rites of Passage Institute on their Making of Men camps and in schools around Australia, guiding adolescent boys toward happy, healthy, authentic manhood.

As the founder of Good Blokes Co, Mike creates spaces for men to explore positive masculinity and mental health. Bringing men together to support each other’s struggles and inspiring men to have a positive impact on the world around them.

Nic Emmerson

Since being discharged from Shenton Park Rehabilitation Hospital 12 months after a life threatening motor vehicle accident, Nic has made many significant achievements.

Despite being unable to talk verbally, he communicates with his Ipad or an alphabet board and in October 2013 he spoke on the radio using his iPad on behalf of National Disability Services (NDS) regarding the implementation of ‘No Fault Insurance’ into Western Australia.

He has put together and self published his own book along with producing a 30 minute documentary entitled 'No Limits' which is a remarkable story outlining his journey of recovery and rehabilitation since his accident. In addition to all of these things, he has continued with an intensive daily rehabilitation programme and spent a total of 4 months at Ken Wares Neurophysics Institute in Queensland last year.

In 2016 Nic was asked to be a joint keynote speaker at The Occupational Therapy Australia Conference which was held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth. His presentation was well received and since that time he has been invited to further public and corporate events.

Claire Orange

Claire is the mum of 4 boys, a therapist, an author, media spokesperson, speaker and a passionate advocate for better outcomes for children everywhere. Graduating as a Speech Pathologist (B Sci Speech & Hearing Science, Hons) in the early 90’s, Claire has added qualifications in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Resilience Education, Counselling and Parenting Coaching. In 2015, Claire partnered with Helen Davidson to form BEST Programs 4 Kids. Together they have co-authored 14 books on Social and Emotional Learning including an Early Years Social Skills Kit and 4 part classroom curriculum linked to the Australian National Curriculum.

Claire also appears as the resident Parenting Expert on Channel Nine, 6PR-882 radio and ABC radio. She is a passionate advocate for preventative measures in children’s mental health that help all children and their families to flourish.
