Event description

Description

In this presentation, Dr Rob Whitely will argue that too much discourse surrounding men’s mental health involves victim-blaming and a misplaced deficits-based approach. He will argue that this should be replaced by a strengths-based, public-health oriented approach with more attention paid to individual capabilities, social determinants and health service reform.

About the presenter

Dr. Rob Whitley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University. His three main interests are recovery, stigma and men’s mental health. He has published over 100 scientific papers in social psychiatry, and writes a monthly blog on men’s mental health for Psychology Today. He is currently principal investigator of numerous mental health research projects funded by the Government of Canada.

Printed tickets are required. The event will take place at UCL - the precise lecture theatre will be announced in Sept.
