Men’s Health Awareness Breakfast: A Conversation about Prostate Health
Date and time
Sikhona Black Men’s Health Awareness Breakfast provides a safe place to have an in depth conversation about prostate cancer.
About this event
Sikhona Black Men Talk (Sikhona BMT) provides a safe place in a trusted community to have in depth conversation about health issues, specifically Prostate Cancer. The conversation about Prostate Cancer will provide a platform to educate men ages 40 and above, as well as men who have a high-risk factor for the Prostate Cancer and their partner/spouse regarding the incidence of Prostate Cancer, the importance of screenings for early detection, treatment and survivorship, including quality of life in African American (AA) communities. Men are encouraged to bring their partner/spouse to Sikhona BMT. Within AA communities, the relationship among men, women, wellness and health care is embedded in the culture; the inclusion of women in designated parts of the conversation is vital and contextually appropriate. Women are critical voices in the conversation about health and wellness of their partner/spouse, thus their participation in the Sikhona BMT is not only desired but necessary due to their role as influencers and decision-making conversations partners.
Our keynote speaker, Dr Frank Chinegwundoh is internationally renowned for his work on prostate cancer and addressing health disparities in the Africana Community. A faciliated discussion will follow the Dr Chinegwundoh's presentation.
