Event description
Explore Richmond's newest murals by bike. This tour will build connects, explore the city, and fill your belly.

About this event

Join us!  This tour will touch your mind, heart, and belly.  Join Bike and Brunch Tours for a ride through neighborhoods like Jackson Ward and Brookland Park. These and other neighborhoods we tour are steeped in culture and history but also the new home to murals in the Mending Walls project.

2020 has been a difficult year for the world. With the recent pandemic people all over the world have largely been put into situations and circumstances in which we have never have to deal with. In the midst of a global pandemic America was faced with another brutal killing of a black man at the hands of the police, which set off an uprising that has filled our streets with voices of objection, to the systemic racism here in America. Along with those protestors came opportunist that have left a path of destruction and vandalism across the City of Richmond. With some of our feelings and demands now physically on Richmond City walls through tags, these expressions leave and mark a space for questions and conversations to happen. These actions inspired the artist Hamilton Glass to start the Mending Walls project.

In Richmond, VA public art is one of the city’s biggest assets in the downtown area. As a city with one of the largest collections of public art in the United states we now have the unique opportunity to use public art as a tool to bring empathy and connect at a time when we need it the most.

This tour like other Bike and Brunch Tours highlight the stories of trailblazers, residents, and organizations behind or continuing the legacy within these communities.

Whether you are on a weekend getaway, local and looking for a new activity with friends, considering moving to the city, or just want to get out, join us. This one of a kind, easy pace, casual tour aims to exude positive vibes, treat our communities and the residents with respect, and nourish the mind and belly.

Ride, see Richmond, have fun….and of course have brunch!

FAQs

Start Time: The ride will leave promptly at 2:00pm. NO REFUNDS will be provided to those who miss the ride due to late arrival under any circumstance.

What to Wear:  Feel free to be stylish as long as your fashions are bicycle ready and safe. Long scarves or fabrics that might easily tangle in the wheels or fall off are discouraged. Closed toe shoes are encouraged.

Tour Length: The ride is slightly less than 10 miles and should take no more than 3 hours. Allow 1 1/2- 2 hours for brunch. Brunch is optional. If you need to leave after the ride and can not join us for lunch, we understand, just let us know before the ride.

The Tour: First, we will meet to allow those who need a rental to pick up their bikes (bike stand, 619 E. Grace Street).  We will then do a few introductions and jump on our bikes for the tour at 2:00pm. After the ride we will move on to brunch. Both the brunch and ride should end by 7:00pm. Additional instructions about the meeting location will be provided once you make your reservation.

Bike Rentals: If you did not request a bicycle when you purchased your ticket please email us at least 48 hours before your tour. Our bicycles are very basic models. For all bicycle rental requests:

  • pay for your rental (Look for an email invoice) at least 12 HOURS BEFORE the ride start time (check spam if you do not receive it).

You have the option to use the local bike share and retailers but must coordinate this on your own. We do not issue refunds due to issues due to problems you may encounter using a bike not rented from us. For example, these may include bicycles from bike share programs or local shops and retailers. If you have trouble with bikes not rented from us during your tour you may request a credit to join us on a later tour.

Retail stores may cost slightly more but offer higher end bicycle models and e-bikes. You must coordinate delivery, pick up, and return of bicycles if you use a retail bicycle rental from a local bike shop. If you secure your rental with us we will deliver it to the ride start point.
