Learn how to sew on a button, replace a hook + eye, or sew up a tear with MariKay!

About this event

Learn the basics of mending on your own clothing by hand! If you've always wanted to learn how to sew on a button, sew up a seam, or repair small holes in a garment, we welcome you to join us at our shop in Avalon. Ages 18+

Old Flame Mending will provide all sewing materials, but participants should bring garments that are in need of mending. Recommended items: clothes with a loose or missing button / hook + eye, items that have a small tear or items that have a small hole (holes should be smaller than a quarter).

Woven fabrics and lightweight knits recommended. Not recommended: denim, leather, heavy duty fabrics, sweaters (this usually requires a different kind of repair!), complex repairs like zipper replacement, etc.

With admission, participants will receive a sewing kit to take home, which will include scissors, a variety of needles, thread, and a thimble.

Masking is required in our space. There will be one fifteen minute break, during which participants will be permitted to remove their masks to enjoy a light snack and seltzer/ water/ tea, all provided by Old Flame Mending.

Instructor: Marikay van Fleet, sewist at Old Flame Mending.
