Event description
In response to the #MeToo Movement, enhance your understanding of how sexual harassment and violence against women occurs.

About this Event

The Philadelphia Men’s Center for Growth and Change (MCGC) is hosting a two-day regional conference focused on working with men and boys in response to the #MeToo Movement.

Join us November 14 - 15, from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (both days), at the University of Pennsylvania, Houston Hall, for this special event.

The conference is co-sponsored by WOAR, the Philadelphia Center Against Sexual Violence, the Lutheran Settlement House, and Philadelphia Physicians for Social Responsibility.

Our goal is to inspire those working with men and boys to help them positively engage with women and girls as allies in preventing sexual violence and to enrich their own personal lives and relationships.

Overview

The focus of this conference addresses the following question:

How can individuals and communities create the conditions for safety and accountability, altering the underlying conditions that allow for sexual violence against women in society?

Our speakers will present insights about factors that contribute to sexual violence, as well as best practices derived locally and internationally that have been shown to be effective in reducing sexual violence in both public and private spaces.

Important topics will include:

  • Cultural and social factors that contribute to men and boys’ involvement in sexual harassment either through direct action or as bystanders
  • Ways that sexual violence impacts men and women from marginalized groups
  • Approaches to changing men’s relationships that help to increase their emotional awareness, empathy and compassion
  • Implementing parenting skills that lead to eliminating sexism, and empowering boys (and girls) to form emotionally supportive and “non- sexist” relationships
  • Establishing workplace settings that are safe, respectful and welcoming to women
  • Helping young people practice healthy rules for sexual engagement in our schools and on college campuses
  • Creating an understanding about how men who have harmed others heal themselves and contribute to the healing of those they’ve harmed

Who should attend

The conference is open to leaders, professionals, and activists who work in business, government, counseling and therapy, education, healthcare, human services, religious institutions, and others who work in settings where sexual harassment and abuse occur or whose focus is on programs that prevent harassment and risk of sexual violence.

We welcome attendees from all backgrounds, races, ethnicities, gender identities, physical abilities, and sexual orientations.

Discount available for non-profit organizations

A 10% discount is available off the General Admission ticket price for non-profit organizations with five (5) or more members attending the conference. To receive your discount, please contact The Men's Center for Growth and Change at info@menandmetoo.org.
