"Men, Peace, and Security: Agents of Change" will take place October 28 – 30, 2013 at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington D.C. This event will consist of a two-day symposium and one-day optional practitioner training course on October 30th, and will bring together over 150 scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and military and security personnel.
The specific objectives of the two-day symposium are to explore the dynamic and complex roles of men during violent conflict and post-conflict, including as combatants; perpetrators, victims, witnesses and survivors of sexual violence; and as agents of potential positive change. This symposium seeks to bridge the research and the practitioner programs focused on engaging men in conflict zones as a key resource for building peace and reconstruction. In addition, the symposium seeks to develop a “community of practice” around issues related to men as agents of peace and human security.
On October 28th and 29th, the program will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. respectively. Participants are invited to evening receptions directly following symposium programming. Please click here for a draft symposium agenda.
On October 30, 2013, we will hold an optional practitioner training course. You must have attended the symposium on October 28-29 to participate in this course. For more information and to register for the course, please click here: http://academyregister.usip.org/courses/Men-agents-of-change.
