Dr. Frank Harris III is an associate professor of postsecondary education at San Diego State University. His research is broadly focused on student development and student success in postsecondary education and explores questions related to the social construction of gender and race on college campuses, college men and masculinities, and racial/ethnic disparities in college student outcomes.

Dr. Tau Braun. The Executive Director of the Violence Prevention Agency. Dr. Braun is a Violence Prevention Specialist. He is a South African registered Clinical Psychologist and has served as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychology. As Executive Director, Dr. Tau Braun manages the operations, personnel, partnerships, and budget of the VPA.

 Goal:

Provide networking opportunities for students, and nursing professionals to engage in diversity and gender equity in the nursing profession, practice issues and concerns, and engage in dialogue with the aim of inspiring professional strength through diversity.

Objectives:

  • Collaborate with state and national nurse leaders on current topics in nursing.
  • Establish networking relationships with state and national colleagues for the exchange of ideas and practices concerning practice, leadership, and education.
  • Share advances in practice, leadership, and education.
  • Support attendees in expanding their educational experience and professional development.
  • Identify common themes and develop recommendations in practice, leadership, and education.

Conference Abstract:

This conference is intended for all levels of nursing professionals: Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Psychiatric Technicians, Certified Nursing Aides, and students of nursing programs from graduate to pre-­‐licensure and high school students that are interested in the nursing profession.

Sessions will include keynotes and breakout sessions for professional enrichment, emerging trends, educational careers trajectories and networking opportunities. We hope to support professional growth, communication and demonstrate to each other and society the increasing contributions being made by men in the nursing profession.

Sessions will include:

  • Men’s Health: A Community Perspective
  • Nurse Specialists panel
  • Psychiatric and Community Health Nursing
  • Motivation of Men in Nursing to Pursue a Doctoral Degree
  • Boards of Nursing updates
  • Mini NCLEX Review
  • Professional Associations
  • The Influence of Professional Mentoring on Career Satisfaction

Health Workforce Initiative, Deputy Sector Navigators for Health

An initiative of the California Community College's Economic and Workforce Development (CCCEWD) program, the Health Workforce Initiative is dedicated to serving California's Health Industry with innovative business solutions. We are an integral part of the California Community Colleges and its Doing What Matters for Business & Industry framework, investing funding and resources in industry sectors that are key to California's economic growth. Our industry-specific workforce services are coordinated through a system of sector specialists that align community college and other workforce development resources with the needs of industry sectors and occupational clusters through a regional focus.

The Health Workforce Initiative is an integral part of this Division and its Doing What Matters campaign, investing funding and resources in industry sectors that are key to California’s economic growth. Doing What Matters is a concerted effort among California Community Colleges to partner with California business and industry and work together to find solutions to regional workforce issues pertaining to California’s high growth sectors. The goals of Doing What Matters are to supply in-demand skills for employers, create relevant career pathways and stackable credentials, promote student success and get Californians into open jobs.
