Description

Educational design platform Open Set, in collaboration with the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, welcomes you to its public seminar on November 24th on Memories of the Future: Facts and Fiction.

In this half day session, the 2017 LAB participants and interested on-lookers will be able to savour four lectures by renowned experts.
  1. Dr. Piet Bakker, lector Mass media and Digitisation at the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, will discuss his research into the role of design into cross-media journalism.
  2. Researcher in Information Retrieval Daan Odijk, will present his on-going work on implementing user interaction findings into his work at journalism platform Blendle.
  3. Rik Smit, lecturer at the University of Groningen Centre for Media and Journalism Studies, will discuss how 'digital memory work' is performed on and by social media platforms.
  4. We close the morning with a presentation by international and interdisciplinary platform for journalism & design The Common Affairs, who will focus on the power of artistic / subjective expressions in journalism, how fiction (art) in combination with facts can bring new representation of current issues.
The event takes place at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision [contact], in the framework of Open Set Lab and the temporary exhibition: Nieuws of Nonsens? Doors open at 09:30, the programme will start at 10:00. Entrance and participation is free, due to the limited amount of seating, we ask you to register.
