Event description

Description

Officer Murrell of the Bloomingdale Police Department died as a result of a traffic accident on January 19th, 2017 at approximately 9:30 pm while in route to an in-progress retail theft call near the intersection of Army Trail Road and Cardinal Drive.

Officer Murrell was 27 years old and has been a member of the Bloomingdale Police Department for just shy of one year. During his shortened tenure at the Bloomingdale Police Department, Officer Murrell had already received a lifesaving award and served his community with respect and integrity. He had been previously employed by the Cook County Sheriff’s Department of Corrections. While attending the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy, Officer Murrell received the notable “George Graves” Award for being the most distinguished recruit. Officer Murrell is survived by his parents, stepparent, sister and numerous loved ones. He will forever be remembered by all employees at the Bloomingdale Police Department for his positive demeanor and enthusiasm.

On Memorial Day (May 29th) at CrossFit Turbine in Carol Stream, IL, a fundraiser will be held to honor Officer Murrell. Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to send Ofc. Murrell's family and a portion of his fellow Bloomingdale Police Officers to Washington DC so they can attend a memorial service that honors him and other fallen officers. Ofc Murrell's name will also be added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall at that time.
