Description

Join us in welcoming professional journalist Andrew Visconti as he brings to us a 6 week course on memoir writing. The 12-hour course in memoir writing will focus on technique. It will explore the fundamentals of plot and character development; scene and action building; accuracy in dialogue. Participants will be encouraged to submit weekly writing exercises. All submissions will be reviewed in class in the spirit of collective feedback and constructive criticism. The use of a laptop (or similar device)is encouraged at home and in class.

Participants are encouraged to read the following books:

- Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr. & E.B. White

- On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King

Andrew Visconti has been a professional journalist for more than thirty years. He has covered a variety of topics - from politics to culture, from the economy to the arts. His passion has always been to write human profiles. Susan Sarandon, Joan Baez and John Turturro are among the celebrities he has met and profiled. He has interviewed several well-known writers, among them Paul Auster, Jhumpa Lahiri and John Updyke. He has been working on a memoir since 2017.
