Event description

Description

Since 1995, Newport News Public Schools and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s Zeta Lamba Education Foundation have cooperatively sponsored a one-day program that focuses on encouraging and preparing students to attend college.

The program is designed to assist with the development of highly motivated, goal-oriented students who are then likely to study harder, score higher, improve academic achievement and SOL scores.

MegaGenesis will be hosted at Woodside High School, 13450 Woodside Lane, Newport News, VA 23608, on February 17, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

MEGAGENESIS consists of four phases:

  1. A renowned motivational speaker
  2. College recruiters from several colleges and universities
  3. Community and corporate exhibits
  4. Many career-oriented workshops conducted by professionals (e.g., doctors, engineers, etc.)

The program typically averages over 1,000 students and parents in attendance. Many of the past attendees were introduced to professions and colleges, which have inspired their career and educational goal setting. Also, with the financial support of sponsors, lunch is provided to participants at no cost.

All students in middle and high school throughout the Hampton Roads Area are invited to attend. This program is beneficial to all students, especially those who are undecided about their future college choice or vocation. Parents, faculty and educational staff members are encouraged to attend and take advantage of this opportunity.

For further information, email the Program Coordinator, Mr. Gregory Dudley at mrdudley06@icloud.com.
