Event description

Description

Performance by Satigata. Hosted by Kittisaro and Thanissara.

Evening includes concert, dinner and reception.

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it – always.” -- Mahatma Gandhi

We are in the midst of a planetary crisis. Everyday, we witness massive suffering, socially, environmentally and politically. Intense panic and despair can plunge us into burnout or immobilize us through overwhelm. However, there is a middle way that draws from the deeper truth of our being. We can, and must meet crisis with consciousness. True consciousness. There is a false consciousness that sees others, even the Earth herself, as separate from us. This delusion of separation is our true crisis. Instead, the aware-intuitive heart, that realizes our connection with all beings, is able to respond with strength and clarity. Just because systems of oppression are dominating does not mean they are indestructible. As old paradigms of separation are being exposed and challenged, the opportunity to liberate ourselves from false narratives is empowering an effective response.

Sacred Mountain Sangha is part of this response. Rooted in the transformation of consciousness, we believe liberation and wellbeing is the birthright of all, and that awakening to our shared belonging within the web of life is a critical component for a sustainable, just, and equitable world. We invite you to share in this vision by joining our Benefit Concert with the wonderful, contemplative music of Satigata. All proceeds go to supporting the running of Sacred Mountain Sangha and scholarships for its core program the Dharmapala Training taught by Kittisaro and Thanissara.

Satigata -- or "progressing into mindfulness" -- is an exploration of contemplative music at the crossroads of Buddhist practice, chanting, and modern American folk-rock. Initially developed in the chapels and classrooms of Harvard Divinity School, Satigata was formed by HDS faculty member Chris Berlin and Master of Divinity grad Darren Becker. Through their songwriting and unique arrangements of both traditional Buddhist mantra and original chants, Satigata blends the spirit of a Buddhist-oriented "kirtan" with acoustic guitars, hand drums, bells, and interactive chanting. The result is a distinctive community experience of music, connection and spiritual inspiration. Their debut album "Boundless" can be purchased at www.satigata.bandcamp.com.
