Event description

Description

CCAs - Community Choice Aggregation programs - are local electricity providers that allow you to have a choice in the energy sources you use to power your home, including 100% renewable and carbon-free sources. Come to this informative panel to learn more about CCAs, meet a representative from two local CCAs, and learn how you can access up to 100% renewable electricity at home without installing solar!

Representatives from MCE (serving Marin, Napa, Solano, and Contra Costa Counties) and East Bay Community Energy (serving Alameda County) will be at GRID's Oakland office providing an overview of how and where they operate and answering questions from the community. There will also be information available about San Jose Clean Energy. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for you to speak with the CCA representatives directly. Join us to find out more!

What is Community Choice Aggregation (CCA)?

Community Choice Aggregation allows for a competitive market of electricity providers using the existing infrastructure for distribution, such as PG&E here in the Bay Area. CCAs often offer a greener mix of electricity at a cost that is competitive with – or even cheaper than – traditional energy sources. It also allows customers to have more choice: you can choose from deeper green or even local rewewable energy sources depending on the options provided by your CCA. FAQs

What is GRID Alternatives?

GRID Alternatives (GRID) is the nation’s largest nonprofit solar installer, serving exclusively low-income communities. GRID also partners with job training organizations and individual job seekers to provide training in installing solar both in a real-world setting and in the classroom under the leadership of knowledgeable GRID staff.

What are Thursday Nights like at GRID Alternatives Bay Area?

Since 2018, GRID Bay Area has been proud to offer a monthly Third Thursday workshops series, providing opportunities to learn about topics that interest you, get hands-on experience, and for our community to network and meet each other. If you'd like to participate in a real-world GRID Alternatives Solar PV installation, attending an orientation is a requirement - orientations and workshops are different events.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

There is no minimum age requirement to enter most workshops - we will call out any age limitations above, which only exist for certain hands-on workshops working with power tools.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

  • Location: GRID Alternatives (1171 Ocean Ave, Oakland, CA 94608). We will be using the entrance via our Ocean Avenue doorway. There is an entrance on Marshall Ave that is wheelchair accessible. Please let us know if stairs are a barrier so we can accomodate training space accordingly.
  • Parking: You can park in our warehouse lot or find street parking.
  • Public Transportation: The closest BART is MacArthur. From MacArthur you can take the Emery-Go-Round (free shuttle) to Hollis and 64th. You can also take the 57 Bus towards 40th St, get off at 40th and San Pablo Ave, and take the 72 Bus towards Hilltop Mall and get off at Alcatraz and San Pablo Ave. The closest BART (walking distance) is Ashby.
  • Bikes: We are near several bike routes and have bike parking in our warehouse lot.

What should I bring into the event?

Pen, note pad, and reusable water bottle.
