Meet the Matriarchs of the Movement: Warrior Women in Action
Event Information
About this Event
Presented by The Warrior Women Project:
Are you feeling some-kind-of-way about enjoying a holiday that celebrates genocide? Tired of wanting to enjoy time with family, relaxing and stuffing your face but just can’t face another pilgrim/ Native American historical farce? Is COVID fatigue setting in?
We have the perfect elixir— join us for an inspiring and transformative remedy for that nasty case of the false-history-holiday-blues! In our best attempt at a virtual gathering, the Matriarchs of the Feather Necklace Tiospaye—Madonna Thunder Hawk, Mabel Ann Eagle Hunter, Marcella Gilbert & Lakota Harden— are down for a keepin-it-so-real-it-might-just-go-wrong conversation with Turquoise Skye Devereaux, a warrior woman apprentice, future matriarch, and young decolonizing educator, and Dr. Beth Castle, the instigator and head activist historian of the Warrior Women Project.
Featured in the Peabody-nominated film Warrior Women, co-directed by Christina D. King and Dr. Beth Castle, our ‘movement matriarchs’ are gathering to share some stories, drop some truth bombs, and answer a few questions in the first of a monthly check-in series called Meet the Matriarchs. You can expect real conversation about matriarchy, decolonizing, the power of kinship, being a good relative, healing mother earth and being in it for the long haul.
LEARN something, THINK differently, DO something, DONATE some money. This event is free, but we hope you will donate to help us bring the film and our project initiatives to Native young people and communities!
