Event description
Join us for an evening of networking and roundtable discussions to understand "conscious consumers" and how they can help your business.

About this Event

"Conscious consumers" are the people who consider the impact of what they are buying, and not buying, and consequently are changing the nature of business.

Join global insight & research organization Mintel and the B Corp community in Illinois for an inspiring evening at 333 Wacker Drive, Chicago, where we will share, explore and debate who is the "conscious consumer", what motivates them and how we can take action so they can positively impact our businesses.

The evening will include introductions from Mintel and B Corp, followed by roundtable discussions on key topics, covering matters such as the rise of online shopping and zero waste, to eco diets and the new generation of consumers.

This event is perfect for those interested in consumers as a force for good, especially founders and leaders of start-ups or small businesses, and marketing, research, communications, or innovation professionals from large organizations or agencies. We hope you can join us!

  • Generation Now. How are they shaping our future? Looking at both the much-debated Millennial generation and the equally fascinating Gen Z (11-23 year olds) to understand how they are affecting change now and how their impact will grow in the coming years. We'll talk about tribes, shared values and how they make purchase decisions.
  • Sustainable Choices. What matters beyond the consumer's own needs? Here we'll be looking at big shifts in the consumer goods industry driven by social and environmental pressures. From plastic reduction and zero waste operations, to sustainable farming and the growth of plant-based. We'll talk about how shoppers are navigating marketing messages to make choices that consider deeper desires for future generations.
  • Online Shopping. Is it changing the world? We'll start by looking at the trend for online shopping vs. brick and mortar and the trends within that, including the influence of Amazon. We'll discuss the opportunity for mission-led brands to connect with like-minded, yet geographically spread people, as well as the limitations of digital-only interactions.
  • Health & wellbeing. What's next? As physical health and mental wellbeing continues to be a critical issue in this country, we'll be discussing the approach to eating and weight management in the US and how that relates to preventative health and mental well being. We'll go on to talk about the future, from eco dieting to diets that promote long-term wellness and purpose.
  • Serving the Earth. Can we do better? Join us to discuss the highly visible and far-reaching foodservice industry. We'll talk about how the difficulty for consumers to make conscious choices, with challenges such as the environmental impact of single-use serveware and communication of ingredients and portion sizes. We'll also discuss the operators themselves and their approach to their employees and the community, in the face of challenges such as rising labor costs.
  • Inclusive Targeting. Who is part of your movement? There are 327 million people living in the US and you can't, nor need, to reach all of them! Join us to look at how the US population can be segmented and look at the opportunity across a diverse set of groups that are changing over time. We'll take a look at regional differences between the Midwest and the coasts, the ageing population, multi-cultural backgrounds including African-americans and Hispanics, and shifts in attitudes to gender.
  • Insight for Investment. What should be in your pitch? We'll be looking at case studies of Mintel insight used in investor pitches and hear first-hand from investors that have invested in B Corps about what they find useful to know about your target consumer to convince them there is sufficient demand for your business.
