Zach Malone: VC, Draper Triangle / Magarac Ventures (MVP)

Zach is one of four founding partners of Pittsburgh-based Magarac Ventures, a recently formed VC firm that grew out of long-established and large regional investor Draper Triangle.

Magarac Ventures has taken up where Draper Triangle left off. Its name signifies heft. Joe Magarac, a Paul Bunyan–type folk hero, was known to Pittsburgh steelworkers for his storied shoulders as big as a steel mill door and hands like the huge ladles used to pour molten steel. The firm's partners today have their eye on diversity and the Midwest.

Pittsburgh has emerged as a favored fishing hole for venture investors, with AI, robotics, medical devices and other tech startups. The firm's new investments include autonomous trucking starting Locomation.

There are a ton of exciting companies to invest in but not enough capital. There’s a tremendous shortage. It’s an opportunity for us, and we do welcome more funds to come in from Silicon Valley, where hot deals are chased by funds.” __ Zach Malone

AND “Will and I are the only general partners under the age of fifty-five in the whole city. Will has opened doors for us in deal flow and investors. He’s a great networker.”

Will Allen, VC, Magarac Ventures

Will has more than 10 years of experience as a business leader, investor, non-profit founder and professional athlete managing high-performing teams and producing outsized returns on investments. He has led investments and advised companies and startups on market growth strategy, business analytics, facilitation of strategic partnerships, and development of team/culture-oriented environment. His direct leadership experience includes serving on a 10-county region CEO economic development organization, a $24 billion multi-state healthcare organization and a regional workforce investment board.

Allen played 12 years in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he developed meaningful relationships with athletes, influencers, CEOs and brands.
