Event description
Detroit-based perfumer Terees Western joins us online, in our latest edition of Meet a Nose.

About this Event

Each edition of Meet a Nose takes the form of a one-hour moderated discussion, where extraordinary thinkers, singular artists, and distinctive perfumers from around the world share their unique perspectives on what it means to be a sensorial human in the world. In this session, Terees Western -- founder and perfumer of FragranTed -- discusses her olfactory practice.

ABOUT TEREES WESTERN

Terees Western is a fragrance and flavor educator, perfumer, perfume collector and purveyor.

As creator of the title and the first Scent DocentTM worldwide, Terees gives talks and creates sensory experiences on fragrance and flavor.

Since childhood, Terees has had an acute sense of smell and taste. Encounters with flavors, fragrances, spices and herbs delighted her mind and mood. These super sensory traits grew into a lifelong fascination, pursuit and study of perfumery and epicurean pleasures.

Certified by the Fragrance Foundation with an honors level professional fragrance qualification, Terees has keen fragrance industry knowledge in areas ranging from scent history, perfume creation and aroma-therapy to culinary ingredients, consumer trends and retailing. Terees is passionate about helping people understand and enjoy the wonderful world of scent. On her own initiative, Terees traveled to Grasse, France to learn from fragrance companies and trained in New York City with industry experts.

Prior to starting FragranTed, Terees had an accomplished 22-year global business career working in executive positions for automotive and luxury goods companies. Terees led key roles in communications, human resources, marketing, executive development and strategy at Ford, Jaguar, Nordstrom and SEE Eyewear. She has lived and worked internationally for job assignments in Europe and Asia.

In her gracious manner, Terees wonderfully guides people to understand and enjoy smells, flavors and aromas. Fondly, she is referred to as a ‘Noble Nose’ for her vast sensory skills.

A graduate of the University of Michigan and Pennsylvania State University with BA and MBA degrees respectively, Terees now combines her love of the arts, business, nature and global culture to “bring beauty and joy to the senses”.

ABOUT MEET A NOSE

A ‘nez‘ is a term used in classical French perfumery to describe the people whose profession it is to compose perfume. However, we all have noses, and we all use them daily. Some of us, however, use them as part of a life’s work.

It is with this in mind that the IAO is pleased to introduce our online conversation series, ‘Meet a Nose’. Each episode takes the form of a one-hour moderated discussions, where extraordinary thinkers, singular artists, and idiosyncratic perfumers from around the world share their unique perspectives on what it means to be a sensorial human in the world.

Topics of discussion will meander and twist – from creative practice to wherever the conversation takes us! Come with an open mind. We may get into uncharted sensorial territory.
