Event description

Description

MEDstudio@JEFF’s Graphic Medicine program explores how visual narratives can communicate complex ideas among health care professionals, patients and the community. This practice transcends language barriers and other obstacles to build empathy for all. This installment of Graphic Medicine investigates the way public mural-making can help us understand hunger in the Delaware Valley; a problem that affects so many yet remains largely invisible and misunderstood.

To launch our program, we will screen Tom Judd’s new documentary, Chalkboard Chronicles, and then have a roundtable discussion on the intersecting topics of public mural-making, social engagement, meeting the needs of underserved populations in our area, and new forms of communication empowering healthcare professionals and patients alike, such as graphic narratives and social media.

Panelists include: Pam Lawler (Founder, Philabundance), Laure Biron (Porch Light Program Director, Mural Arts Philadelphia), artist Tom Judd, and others. Moderated by Peter Lloyd Jones, PhD (Exec. Director, MEDstudio and Assoc. Dean of Emergent Design, SKMC) and Trudy Anne Watt (Assoc. Director, MEDstudio and Fellow in Emergent Design).
