Event description

Description

Bruce Manson will approach this talk based upon his recent research into a remarkable church standing midway between Dunfermline and St Andrews. What were the obstacles facing pilgrims as they stepped from the boats on the shores of Fife? What kind of landscape did they face and how did it change over many centuries of pilgrimage? What routes might travellers have taken, how did they find their way and where did they find shelter? Finally, the talk will attempt to describe the interior of Markinch “minster”, as it was referred to by an early traveller. How did it change over these years and why?

Bruce F. Manson MA (Hons), MSc, FSA (Scot) studied Geography and the History of Architecture as part of a wider undergraduate degree. He has a Masters Degree in Urban Design and Regional Planning and taught as a Research Fellow at Edinburgh University before pursuing a career in local economic development and policy planning. He is the author of “MacDuff’s Kirk” (2017) and “Fife - Why a Kingdom?” (2017) produced for Fife Council.

The talk starts at 3.30pm and the exhibition will be open from 2.30pm.
