Hosted by the Rockland Police Department Rockland, Maine

Taught by skilled instructors working in the field of criminal and death investigations, this course will provide an intermediate level overview of the skills required to properly investigate a death scene.

This training is design for:

  • Law Enforcement
  • Coroners / MDI Investigators
  • Special Investigators

The format will develop confidence in the investigator and hone valuable skills. After completing this course, the investigator will have the ability to better;

  • Manage a death scene from the initial call, arrival, and scene cooperation
  • Locate, document, and collect scene evidence
  • Properly distinguish differing manners of death
  • Recognize implications in cause and manner rulings
  • Better understand wound and injury interpretation
  • Investigate infant and child death
  • Investigate suicide and self-harm death
  • Investigate and Interpret Auto-Erotic deaths
  • Recognize signs of mental fatigue

Included in this course will be several scene and post-mortem examination photographs and video segments – as well as injury, death, and homicide scenes through photos and video of actual cases. This course is very graphic and intense.



Instructor

Darren Dake is a certified instructor and criminal investigator with over 30 years of experience in the field of law enforcement and death investigations. He holds certification as an instructor for the Missouri Department of Public Safety, the Missouri Sheriff’s Association, and the Law Enforcement Training Institute – (Missouri University Columbia). Darren is founding director and lead instructor for the Death Investigation Training Academy™ and publisher of the Death Investigator Magazine™.


Continuing Education Credits

This course is approved for 22 hours of Law Enforcement CLEE credits from Missouri POST as well as 22 hours of Continuing Education through the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI)
