Event description

Description

Join Dr. Erika F. Marie, DACM, LAc., Dipl. Ac. (Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and experienced qi gong practitioner) for a very special, energy-boosting, and revitalizing exercise!

Sign up here for our outdoor class in a private courtyard!

The theory: Yang qi ("energy") can be understood as the warming energy of the sun. "Yang Revitalizing & Orthopedic Qigong" is a simple set of exercises that mindfully connects the body to nature, gathering in yang energy as it naturally ebbs towards the darkest time of the year: winter solstice. With a combination of mindful breathing and simple, standing movements, the exercise aims to fill our own inner "yang" storehouse, empower our vital force, and re-charge our divine spirit. Feel stronger, more confident, and move with more ease by the conclusion of class!

Conditions helped by this form: Post-partum fatigue, chronic illness, depression, infertility, pelvic floor weakness, bladder weakness, fatigue due to overwork, “burn-out" and exhaustion, weight gain, low testosterone, hypothyroid, arthritis and joint pain, orthopedic surgery & injury recovery, tendons/ligament pain, neuropathies, autoimmunity, cancer, bone deterioration, osteoporosis and prevention of osteoporosis, “anti-aging” and promotion of vitality and health.

Bonus #1: By boosting the vital inner force, this exercise helps stave off colds, flu, and other threats to the immune system -- helping us to stay healthy during the cold/flu season.

Bonus #2: Childcare is AVAILABLE during class! See the Family Village website for more information about becoming a member of a fabulous community and getting low-cost childcare.

Perfect for both beginners and experienced practitioners of qigong and yoga, it's a non-faith-based, mind-body-spirit empowering exercise that doesn't require any belief. If you can recognize that your breath brings in the outside world and you are part of nature -- you will love it!

Please note that because this qigong increases internal yang qi, women of all ages (14+) and both men and women over age 40 tend to respond very positively to this form. Young men in their late teens or twenties may find themselves feeling a bit unsettled after it and may be better suited to a yin form of qigong. It is not appropriate for pregnant women.

Class is held rain, shine, or snow in the inner courtyard shared by Family Village of Longmont and St Stephens Episcopal Church. For those of us who are shy, the courtyard is a private courtyard that cannot be seen by the street. Please dress appropriately, including sunscreen, sunglasses, jacket/layers, or hat and gloves as desired. If standing for 30-45 minutes is difficult for you, come at least 5 minutes early so we can set up a chair for you in the courtyard.

All genders and ages are welcome over age 14. Members of the public should sign up for class through this page at Eventbrite. Members or supporters of Family Village of Longmont should sign up through the FV Wellness Living page to receive the appropriate discount.

Class is taught by Dr. Erika F. Marie, LAc, DACM, Dipl. Ac., a board-certified, state-licensed acupuncturist with over a decade of qigong (chi gong) experience for health and healing. Learn more about her and her clinic at chiyucenter.com.
