Description

Background
Medical countermeasure distribution and dispensing is the ability of county health departments and healthcare facilities to provide vaccines, antivirals drugs, antibiotics, etc. in support of treatment or prophylaxis during an emergency.
Goal
This regional in-person training will highlight aspects of medical countermeasure dispensing which are critical to success planning and response:
- Identification of MCM dispensing and distribution strategies;
- Overview of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) program that provides nerve agent antidotes in secure locations for rapid deployment (CHEMPACK);
- Counties in New York that are prepared to respond quickly to provide medical countermeasures to a population;
- CDC’s operational readiness review (ORR) process to ensure states can rapidly dispense medicines during an emergency;
- NYSDOH’s cache of medicines, medical supplies and equipment that are available during an emergency; and
- How to plan for the dispensing of medical countermeasures to a targeted population
