Event Details

We are happy to invite you to attend the upcoming training seminar on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in conference rooms UL8 & 9 at the Judicial Education and Conference Center located at 2011 D Commerce Park Drive in Annapolis, Maryland. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Two concurrent sessions will begin at 9:00am, with each one focusing on either family law or civil mediation, followed by a joint session for everyone focusing on mediation research and ethics.

First Session (9:00am-11:00am): Concurrent sessions:

Family Law Mediators: Carl D. Schneider, Ph.D will join us with his partner Audrey M. Yowell, Ph.D., M.S.S.S. to present workshops on How to Help Parents Develop Their Parenting Plan and Sponsoring the Conversation: The Missing Art. Participants will discuss a successful way to work with parents on their parenting plans, and address Ken Cloke’s critique of how many of our mediations are conducted. The family law training will last approximately two (2) hours.

Civil Mediators: Stacy Smith, JD, from the University of Maryland Carey School of Law's Center for Dispute Resolution (C-DRUM), will join us to discuss impasse and negotiation. In this two-hour interactive presentation, participants will identify common reasons participants resist reaching agreement and discuss targeted methods to address them. The presentation will touch on negotiation frameworks, cognitive barriers to effective decision-making, communication tools, and an ethical approach to facilitating agreement.

Second Session (11:15am-1:15pm): Joint session:

Jonathan Rosenthal, Esq., the Director of the Maryland Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO), will join us to cover the recent Statewide Evaluation of ADR in Maryland. More information to come. The training will last approximately two (2) hours.

The training will include complimentary breakfast items as well as coffee, tea, juice, and water.

This is a great opportunity and attendance will complete your 2017 continuing education requirements under Md. Rule 17-205(a)(5). Please RSVP to this invitation by Wednesday, June 14, 2017. Please note there are two separate ticket categories. Please select the training appropriate to you; mediators on both our Civil and Family Law panels will need to choose one or the other.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the ADR Coordinator in the Office of Case Management by phone or email.

We hope to see you there!
