Event description

Description

This training aims to augment Child Support workers with mediation and communication skills in order to help de-escalate tension between custodial and non-custodial parents. In this way they can assist parents in crafting voluntary support agreements that work, are lasting, and are in the best interests of all involved.

In this training, Child Support workers will:

  • Understand conflict theory and styles for resolving conflict;
  • Learn skills for effective listening and communication, validating customer concerns, creating trust, and de-escalating tension; and
  • Learn and practice a 6-step mediation process for intervention into conflict between custodial and non-custodial parents, and completion of voluntary support agreements.

This is the same standard DSC uses to train mediators. The examples and mediation roleplays come straight from real life child support cases, and all roleplays are coached by experienced DSC mediators.

Will Dudenhausen, Trainer Will has a BA from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois. Will joined the Center in 2005 and conducts trainings, interventions, and facilitations for adults and youth in schools, organizations, and workplaces. He is a MNNC and DPI-certified mediator, and a Family mediator.
