*****ANNOUNCEMENT**** Due to weather-related school closings the past week, the first academy class has been pushed to October 3rd, 2017 to allow students time to register for classes. The monh of October will focus on Film & Television Production from October 3rd-12th, followed by Introduction to Animation October 17th-26th, Tuesdays and Thursdays. November classes will be announced the last week of September.

The Media Tech & Arts Academy(MTTA) is a media education company that is designed to be a platform where students and aspiring creatives can learn skills in facets of the technology, media and entertainment industry. Partnering with Discovery High School. The organization’s mission is to create opportunities to students for meet, collaborate, learn, and be mentored by established industry professionals.

The Academy will take place each semester and consist of classes, trips and activities involving Make-Up Artists, Animators, Filmmakers, Audio Engineers, Video Game Designers, broadcast journalists and others. .
This program is designed to help youth build self-confidence, encourage creativity, self-expression and personal resilience.


CLASS 1 - TUESDAY 10/3/2017 - Introduction to Film & Television Production

2:45 - 3:15 - LECTURE - Welcome to the film industry! If you want to join us in this crazy, thrilling lifestyle, the very first thing you have to do is learn the language. On our first class, you will learn how to “speak set”. We will go over common industry terms and instances in which they can be used. We will also touch on what a production assistant does and how this entry-level position can be a gateway into jumpstarting a career in film and TV production.

3:25 - 3:45 - HANDS ON CHALLENGE: USE THE CORRECT SET TERM FOR THE SITUATION PRESENTED

CLASS 2 - THURSDAY 10/5/2017 - THE MISE EN SCENE

2:30 - 2:40 - REVIEW FROM LAST CLASS

2:40 - 3:15 LECTURE - Mise En Scene -or it’s literal translation "placing on stage”- means exactly that. Everything you see on any particular frame of any movie is part of this well-known concept. Many even consider it the very basis of visual storytelling.Today’s class is all about learning the different elements that make up the Mise En Scene and how to execute them with your original artistic vision. You and a crew of your peers will put your knowledge of Mise En Scene to the test by writing and planning a one-shot, one-minute short film, which you will get to film and watch next class.

3:25 - 3:45 - HANDS ON CHALLENGE: THE MISE EN SCENE - PART 1 - WRITE & DESIGN A ONE SHOT, ONE MINUTE FILM WITH A CREW OF YOUR PEERS

CLASS 3 - TUESDAY 10/10/2017 - LIGHTS , (SOUND), CAMERA, ACTION!

2:40 - 3:15 - LECTURE - To be a true pro, you need to know about all the different positions and departments that make a film possible. In this class, you will learn about key departments, what each position entails and how they work together to make a film - Grip & Electric, Sound, Camera. Then, you and a crew of your peers will put your knowledge to the test by actually staging and filming the one-shot, one-miute short film you wrote and prepped for on our last class.

3:15 - 3:25 - MINI BREAK

3:25 - 3:45 - HANDS ON CHALLENGE: THE MISE EN SCENE - PART 2 - SHOOT A ONE SHOT, ONE MINUTE FILM WITH A CREW OF YOUR PEERS

CLASS 4 - THURSDAY 010/12/2017 - THE DOOR AND HOW TO GET YOUR FOOT THERE

2:30 - 2:40 - REVIEW FROM LAST CLASS

2:40 - 3:15 - LECTURE - On our last day together, we will talk more in depth about the production assistant position and our growing Ayou will leave with the necessary tools to ace a job interview for the position of Production Assistant. You will learn how to format a production resume and cover letter so you can start looking for work in the industry.

3:25 - 3:45 - HANDS ON CHALLENGE: MOCK JOB INTERVIEW FOR THE POSITION OF PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Project files will be supplied by instructor this will ensure that the course is accessible to all
levels and does not require additional content creation time. The animation technique will be a
“cutout” style similar to popular Children’s educational programming and Southpark.
