About this event
This webinar will raise awareness of the 'mortality gap' for people with SMI and suggest how increased risk of physical health problems can be identified and how we can support people to reduce this risk.
Dr Shiers will discuss his experiences of supporting his daughter with SMI, particularly identifying and managing physical health problems.
Prof Carolyn Chew-Graham will outline the evidence for the higher mortality from physical health problems in people with SMI. David and Carolyn will discuss what can be done to better identify and manage physical health problems in people with SMI. We will highlight opportunities for all health and social care practitioners to help people with SMI manage their health.
Learning objectives
- To raise awareness of physical health problems in people with SMI and the resulting 'mortality gap'.
- To help participants identify how they can identify risks of, and established, physical health problems and work with people with SMI to reduce the impact of physical health problems.
