Event description
Learn from our favorite local chefs during virtual cooking classes focusing on vegan cuisine supporting the Palm Springs Animal Shelter.

About this Event

At the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, we love good food almost as much as we love animals. That’s why we’re launching a series of virtual cooking classes to showcase some of our favorite chefs while we raise funds to support our life-saving work with homeless pets of the Coachella Valley.

Each Month, on a Monday, we’ll be showcasing a different chef instructing you how to cook up vegan dishes that are finger licking good! First up, for Meatless Mondays, Chef Albert Gonzalez from Eight4Nine will be cooking Hearts of Palm "Crab" Cakes and a decadent Panna Cotta.

Registrants will receive exclusive access to the live virtual cooking class, a shopping list (in advance), and recipe. Classes are $40 each.

  • Monday, March 8th - 6pm to 7:30pm - Chef Albert Gonzalez of Eight4Nine Restaurant and Lounge.
  • You will be learning to cook - Hearts of Palm "Crab" Cakes and Panna Cotta with Roasted Berries.

Albert Gonzalez was born and raised in the Coachella Valley. Working as a Peer Group Counselor during his Coachella Valley High School Junior and Senior years. This is where he developed an interest in helping others and working with people. Albert spent time volunteering at Revivals and walked the runway to raise funds for Animal Samaritans and danced for Desert Aids Project fund raiser, “Dancing with the Desert Stars”.

Albert began his career in the hospitality industry at the front desk of Lulu California Bistro. It was not long before you found him in the kitchen and not the front desk.

After purchasing one cookbook by Betty Crocker, Albert became a Self-taught pastry chef, creating amazing over the top cakes. Albert found love and passion in pastry making through this book. In 2015 He and his partner Willie Rhine opened EIGHT4NINE Restaurant & Lounge and Albert created the desserts that are still served today. After spending over 5 years in various parts of the kitchen Albert has acquired the knowledge to run the popular eatery along with an amazing group of peers. In his spare time, Albert gives back to the community by participating in different organizations and charities. Albert sits on the Board of The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert, he and his partner are members of DAP’s Partners For Life, The Center’s Ocotillo Club and AAP Food Samaritans Jeannette Rockefeller Angel Program. During the difficult time of the pandemic Albert helped raised funds for Angel View by sharing his passion for food via zoom.
