"MEANWHILE IN MEMPHIS: The Sound Of A Revolution" Movie Screening
Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (PST)
A documentary film about the modern DIY Memphis music community. From Jim Dickinson to Tav Falco to The Grifters, various Memphis artists will speak for themselves and let you know what true musical independence is all about in the bluff city. However, after Stax Records closed in the mid 1970’s, the music industry left Memphis. Also since then, the-powers-that-be in town have focused on promoting the “dead” legends of Memphis music. All the while, the new Memphis musicians arose out of the underground. Despite the challenging conditions, these musicians formed a community unified by independent themes. With this maverick philosophy, Memphis stands happily alone as the ultimate outlaw music town.
