Invaders Affecting our Forest Floor

Non-native Invasive Earthworms and How They are Affecting our Forests

Through this webinar presentation we will discuss what makes most earthworms invasive species in North America. We will start the discussion with European earthworms (Nightcrawlers are an example) and how they got here, what their impacts are and what we can do. We will then move to Asian earthworms (Jumping worms are an example) the latest invasive worm to arrive in the region. Found in garden beds, mulch and compost

piles they represent a threat to the health of our managed and wild landscapes. We will learn how to identify the differences between the 2 groups and how you can participate in documenting them across the landscape.

All Hope is Not Lost: Trends in invasive plants in eastern national parks and a strategic tool to protect park resources

Despite their relatively small size, national parks in the eastern US support regionally significant forests that are being impacted by invasive plants, including exotic vines. Species-specific trends in invasive plant abundance and the impacts of vines on forest health will be presented. Join the webinar to find out which invasive is slowly blanketing eastern parks, who wins the invasive-on-invasive competition, and what the National Park Service is doing to effectively combat the seemingly insurmountable problem of invasive plants.
