About the Program

Judge Gafkowski will speak with attorneys on how a financially successful practice can be built from scratch with planning and perseverance. Through his own experiences, he will discuss how giving of your time can reap rewards later and how to figure out how to be in the right place at the right time.

Lunch will be provided for all attendees.

About the Speaker

Judge Gafkowski was born in Chicago, Illinois. He attended South Gate High School and then U.S.C. obtaining a B.S. in Business Administration and then a law degree also from U.S.C. The judge also served in the U.S.M.C. Reserves. He started his own practice before appointment to the bench. While presiding over one of the busiest courts in LA County, as a night student, he attended Pepperdine University's Law School and earned a Masters Degree in Dispute Resolution.

Appointed to the South Gate Municipal Court in 1973. Retired from the Los Angeles Superior Court after 27 years. For another 15 years he served as an assigned judge for the Superor Court at San Bernardino. Retired in 2016, completing 42 years of judicial service.

Some of Judge Gafkowski's accomplishments as a lawyer in South Gate include, being a President of Toastmasters, President of the Chamber of Commerce, a City Councilman and the Mayor of South Gate. While a judge he served as President of South Gate Rotary and as Master of the South Gate Masonic Lodge. In 2009 the Judge was awarded the Judge of the Year Award by the Riverside and San Bernardino Chapters of ABOTA for his years of service as a trial judge in San Bernardino County.

Judge Gafkowski and his wife Sharlene have four married children and 18 grandchildren sprinkled throughout Southern California and New York.
