Description

The Friends of the Parks (FOTP) Chicagoland Earth Day Parks & Preserves Clean-Up and Celebration began 30 years ago as a way to engage communities in their local parks and forest preserves. Today, FOTP partners with a multitude of other groups including the Chicago Park District, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, and many community and volunteer organizations. The 30th Annual Chicagoland Earth Day Parks & Preserves Clean-Up will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2019 in parks throughout the Chicago area. From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. there will be a celebration at Humboldt Park (including games and activities for all ages)! All Chicagoland Earth Day volunteers are welcome to attend.

Join local Earth Day hosts, the McKinley Park Advisory Council and Chicago Park District Natural Areas Community Stewards, and register to be an Earth Day volunteer at McKinley Park! Please register by April 12th so we can count you in for supplies. Registration will continue the day-of and you are welcome to attend without pre-registration.

Meeting location and event details: Volunteers should meet at 9:00am at the stump circle between the lagoon and Damen Avenue. (Parking is available in the lot near the Field House at 2210 W. Pershing Road.) We will work around the lagoon for two hours, then meet at the Field House at 11:00am to make percussion instruments and participate in a drum circle. If weather allows, we will celebrate with a percussion parade to the stump circle and back.
