Event description

Description

Friends of the Parks' Earth Day Parks & Preserves Clean Up and Celebration began 28 years ago as a way to engage communities in their local parks and forest preserves. Today, FOTP partners with a multitude of other groups including: Friends of the Forest Preserves, Chicago Park District, and Forest Preserve District of Cook County.

Hosts: CNT Young Innovators Board

The CNT Young Innovators board is the associate board of the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT), a nonprofit research and advocacy organization committed to improving cities’ economic and environmental sustainability, resilience, and quality of life. The Young Innovators host a variety of educational, outdoor, and social activities throughout the year; you can sign up for our email list here!

We are excited to participate yet again this year in the FOTP's Love Your Mother Earth: 28th Annual Earth Day Clean-Up on Saturday, April 22nd. Our selected site is McKinley Park. We will be hard at work from 9:00am to noon collecting trash, maintaining paths, weeding, and more. After that, we'll head to a neighborhood bar for lunch and drinks. FOTP is also hosting a celebration from noon to 2:00pm at Humboldt Park (including lunch, games, and activities for all ages)!

P.S. McKinley Park is located adjacent to Chicago's long-vacant Central Manufacturing District (CMD), the earliest industrial park of its kind in the United States. Learn more about CNT's proposed transformation to the site in this report.
