Event description

Description

As part of our 2017-2018 professional development plan we will run two leadership academies. One academy will be designed for building-level and district-level leaders responsible for leading the implementation of transformational change. We plan to bring this group together for 3 face-to-face days, (August 7, September 28 & 29) to address a variety of topics and to determine how best to support their work during the school year. We will problem solve to identify the methods and formats for supporting them throughout the school year, including offering online communication forums, regional meetings, etc. Because of the challenge build-level leaders have leaving their buildings when school is in sesson, we plan to start in August.

The second academy will be designed for teachers and coaches who are leading the work within their districts/schools. These teachers and coaches should be those who understand and have a passion for developing proficiency-based, customized learning systems.

We also plan to bring this group together for the same 3 face-to-face days (August 7, September 28 & 29) as our other leadership academy, and anticipate a fairly large group if all cohort schools participate. We look forward to supporting and helping to develop their leadership skills by collaboratively identifying the challenges and developing solutions/strategies that make them more successful. We also look forward to learning from them through their collaboration with each other. Both academy groups will determine the methods and formats they want/need for continued support throughout the school year.

The location for our face-to-face meetings will be at T & B Celebrations Center, in Waterville, Maine. At the outset, both academy groups will meet together, but they will eventually separate in ways that meet their specific needs.

Currently, our draft goals are:

  • Acquire an understanding of a common language and framework of leadership that will help school leaders make transformational changes in their learning communities.
  • Continue to develop the leadership knowledge and skills necessary for implementing our vision for proficiency-based, customized learning.
  • Identify the challenges & barriers leaders are facing and develop strategies that eliminate those challenges and barriers.
  • Identify methods and formats for our leaders to communicate, problem solve, and support each other beyond our three face-to-face sessions.

Daily Schedule: 8:30 - 3:00

13+ Contact hours will be povided.
