Event description

Description

Please join the MCCD policy team for a half day advocacy bootcamp training at the State Capitol. The session will cover key terms, how the legislature operates, how to advance policy, and communication strategies. All staff from member organizations are invited to attend and we encourage residents to also attend. Resident stories are compelling and often resonate with lawmakers so we want to make sure that residents are comfortable and feel prepared to spend time at the Capitol. (Please note that MCCD is unable to provide financial assistance to attendees of the advocacy bootcamp).

What is advocacy and why is it important?

Effective advocacy enables nonprofits to shape the public debate on important social issues, like community development, and ensures that underserved communities have a voice in the creation of policies. The term advocacy encompasses much more than just lobbying, it also includes research, legislative and public education, storytelling, and organizing.
