MC'17: A Musical Chairs Event

A musical chairs event benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay!
What is it? A day of fun and games on the Boston Common! Compete for prizes in one of our musical chair leagues, or check out the vendor tents, live music, and lawn games which are free and open to the public!
MC’17 is a unique opportunity to bring together the Boston Community through a fun, family-oriented event and to raise awareness of our agency’s work in our community.

Schedule of Events
11:00am- Registration, vendor tents, and lawn games open
11:00am-3:30pm- Fun activities for the whole family, live music, food and beverages for sale, vendor tents
12:00pm- Welcome and announcements, all participants report to their assigned sections
12:30pm- Musical Chairs Competition begins! All participants must be at their designated section by this time or they will not be able to participate
2:30pm- Awards Ceremony
3:30pm- Vendor tents and lawn games end, event concludes
How the Competition Works
At registration, you will be given a wrist band for entrance to your assigned League section. As space is limited in the competition sections, entrants will not be allowed to bring any personal possessions with them other than a bottle of water. Entrants are asked to leave purses, backpacks, etc. with family or friends or, if attending alone, see info about on-site storage in the FAQ section.
Big and Junior Leagues
As entrants arrive at their League entrance, volunteer coordinators will direct them to a section of the area that will contain between 20 and 30 chairs (There will be anywhere from 10-30 sections in each League). Volunteer coordinators will be available at all times to answer questions but most of the needed information will come from the emcee on the stage.
All players will be seated until just before the start of the round, when the Section Coordinator will ask everyone to stand and will remove two of the chairs. When the music stops, the two people who are not seated will be eliminated and will exit the League Area.
The rounds will continue until there are only 2 people left in each section who will advance to the quarter finals. Four people will advance from the quarter finals to the semi-finals and 2 people will advance to the finals.
This League will operate the same way as the other leagues, however only one chair will be removed each round, and both members of the Duo will be eliminated.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
While we have specific age requirements for our Musical Chairs Competition (please see below), there will be vendor tents, music, and lawn games for people of all ages!
What are the age requirements for the Musical Chairs Competition?
There will be three competition leagues divided by the below age groups. Each league's competition will happen simultaneously!
-Big League: Participants must be 16 years or older.
-Little League: Participants must be between the ages of 7 and 15 years old.
-Major-Minor League: Duos must consist of one individual 16 years or older AND one individual between the ages of 7 and 15 years old.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The Boston Common is easily accessible by public transit. Take the Red or Green lines to Park St, or the Orange line to Chinatown.
If you’re driving, set your GPS to “Boston Common”. There are parking lots underneath the Common and within the surrounding areas, but we highly recommend public transport to avoid parking fees.
What can I bring into the event?
Yes: sealed or empty water bottles, blankets, strollers and folding chairs.
No: glass, pets, alcohol, or smoking.
Discouraged: Large bags, backpacks, and umbrellas.
*NOTE: A limited amount of paid storage will be available on site, but we encourage all attendees to pack light.

What's the refund policy?
We will be unable to issue refunds, however, all proceeds help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay to match more kids with responsible, caring mentors!
Do I have to bring my printed registration confirmation to the event?
We encourage all attendees to bring your printed ticket confirmation to registration, as it will result in a faster check-in!
Is my registration transferable?
Registration is not transferable.
Is it ok if the name on my registration doesn't match the person who attends?
Individuals must register under their own name, as we do require personal contact information and waivers signed by all Musical Chairs Competition participants.
